Karen is a personal friend of mine and the god-mother of my son. She understands how a business is to be run, and certainly has mastered the art of hospitality. I enjoyed a night at her establishment once, quite some time ago, and I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable evenings to spend, playing tourist in my own city. Her B&B is historic and full of local charm and fun. Lots of ghost stories circulate, and Karen is more than happy to share the lore. Her establishment is perfectly located with all the hot spots in walking distance. She provides a personal and friendly customer service that you are going to be hard pressed to find anywhere else in this city. If you want to spend a couple nights in a place where you will feel like you're at home and be treated like a member of the family, Dauphine House is the place for you!

Just got back from a lovely weekend in New Orleans and absolutely adored staying here! The pricing was very reasonable, and Karen (the owner) was so nice. As the other reviews have said, she keeps the room stocked with pastries and muffins and fresh fruit, as well as chicory coffee and orange juice. We stayed in the peacock room, which has a smaller bedroom size, but the bathroom is very large with a clawfoot tub and armoire that is a hidden sink/vanity. Our friends stayed in the room across the hall that is a larger bedroom with a standup shower and toilet. This room has a door that connects to another room- I believe it is called the green room, but that one is not typically rented out to people these days. Karen gave us wonderful recommendations for places to go and food to eat (not just your typical advice you read on google or get from a general hotel guide). The beds were very comfortable and the street quiet so I slept like an angel each night! If you are looking for a place that feels like a home away from home, this is a about as good as it gets. Also, if you like to read, be prepared for some wonderful book recommendations! There are already books in the room, but once I told Karen that our friend with us was an avid reader, she personally left him books on the bed each day that she was reading. One of them I am actually recommending to my book club for the next read! The neighborhood was very close to the quarter but also felt very safe at night. People living in the surrounding houses were also nice and made a point to say hello when we walked past. I will definitely be staying here when I come back to visit.

I can't tell you how amazing this lil treasure was... Very lucky to have come across it. The Dauphine House is run by the sweetest lady, Karen. The accommodations were perfect; homey and quaint. The location is ideal. Far enough away from the craziness of the quarter, but close enough to access it when needed. I can't wait to plan my next trip and stay here again!! A+++++

I can't say enough about this cute little B&B. My wife and I were on our honeymoon, and decided to try our first B&B. I now feel that we were spoiled, and will never find another as good as this one. Karen the owner does such a great job. We arrived at almost midnight, and she was there to greet us warmly and give us a quick tour. She also provides a well planned out guide to the area, including food/drink choices, and a guide of things to do as well as some good safety tips. The location was perfect. It is located roughly two blocks off of Bourbon street, and three blocks from the much better "French-man street". We could walk to almost everything we did, and only used a cab once to get to the art museum. Every day while we were out, our room would get freshened up, and our awesome "snack" basket was refilled. There are some great food options within a few blocks of the B&B, but we loved eating the delicious muffins and pastries as late night snacks. I will say that the best breakfast near the B&B was the Ruby Slipper, and the best dinner was at Three Muses. I have written reviews on both, and I recommend them to anyone. Like others say, the rooms can be tiny, and the TV was small. But, while in NOLA, a room is for sleeping and if you turn on the TV, you are doing something wrong. Karen made our honeymoon that much better. It felt like you were staying with the nicest aunt a person could ever had. We had a nice bottle of champagne waiting for us upon arrival, and an awesome can of Creole seasoning when we left. She let us use the laundry and her detergent, in fact she insisted. If you look all over the web, I don't think you can find a poor review of Karen or her Dauphine House. The price is great, and the location is even better. I would recommend this B&B to all in search of a great place to stay while in NOLA. We will be returning. Thanks Karen!!!

We stayed at the Dauphine House B&B for 6 days and it was a very comfortable stay. Nice and quiet and in a good neighborhood right outside the French Quarter. About 2 streets over from where Bourbon and Royal start into The French Quarter! Around the neighborhood, we had quick access to a small convenience store, two great places to eat - Port of Call and La Peniche. And an awesome neighborhood bar - the R Bar. Down the street a few blocks was Frenchman Street. So this location was really awesome! The House itself was very charming and pretty. We loved the little outside garden. Our room had a lot of character and was very clean, pretty and very New Orleans. The room was a little small for us, since we were getting married - we had a ton of stuff and felt a bit crowded. I am also a big fan of natural light, so it was a little tough not being able to open the windows to bring in more light. The darkness though brought great for sleep and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also a little small and it is separated from the sink. But we made the best of it! The host, Karen, was amazing. Our room was cleaned every day and she always left us fresh fruit, orange juice and muffins/scones. On our wedding day, she was so sweet and left us a bottle of champagne. She is a great resource too for what to do and where to go! On the day that we left, she left us some killer Tony's creole seasoning. We walked to the B&B every night around 11pm - Midnight and always felt safe! We had a wonderful stay for sure!!

The Dauphine House and it's owner Karen Jefferies, are exactly what every BnB should be like and what every hostess or host who owns and runs a sucessful BnB should be like. We spent four nights there last week and it was by far, THE best BnB we've ever stayed at in terms of hospitality and comfort (and we've stayed in a few fine BnB's.) Long before we arrived, Karen kept in contact with us via phone and email. She asked if we didn't mind sharing our travel itnerary so she would know when to expect us and was a fountain of knowledge about NOLA. She only has three rooms to let and we stayed in the center one, or the purple room. It was always quiet, the room was spotless and every morning Karen came in to tidy up, refresh the tp and towels and refill the goody basket. Look at the other pics that folks have posted and you will see the set up for the rooms. There is street parking and Karen will give you a pass to post inside your windshield to keep the cops from ticketing you. These is a little table outside where you can have your coffee, free wi-fi and a small tv which we didn't even look at once. We even asked if we could use her washer to run a small load of clothes because we had run out of undies and she graciously allowed us to use hers and "No, don't buy detergent, I have lots." WOW!!! I felt like I was home and our stay was the icing on the cake to our visit in NOLA. Please be aware thought that unlike SoCal where we are from, not everything is handicapped accessible and that goes for the Dauphine. Our bathroom was lovely but a tight squeeze for two rather rotund grandparents but if you are slim and trip, well, you'll have no problem! The steps to get inside are fairly steep as are most steps all over NOLA. There is a small fridge and you would be wise to keep plenty of water in there to hydrate yourselves. We were fairly close to Bourbon Street but as Karen suggested, taking a cab is cheap and quick and saves you at the end of a hot day. I know it's off season because of the hellacious weather, but her prices the use of her beautiful BnB are out of control! I hope I didn't miss anything but Karen if you see this...my husband and I will be forever greatly for all your help, great advice, kindness and generousity and of course your beautiful home.

This B&B was WONDERFUL. First, the owner Karen goes above and beyond (she even gives you a parting gift of creole seasoning before you leave!). She fills a generous basket with pastries (muffins, danishes, biscotties, etc.) for you each day. She had a book put together of places to eat, drink, sight see, and safety tips. We've never stayed at a B&B before I think we'll be hard pressed to find one as perfect at the Dauphine House. The location is also perfect. We didn't use our car once during our stay as it was right on the edge of the French Quarter. We felt perfectly safe as well in the neighborhood. The B&B has so much charm and character that it gives you a way more authentic NOLA experience vs. staying at a chain hotel. Also, during the "off season" her rates are below $100. She stays pretty booked up and it's not by accident! I would definitely stay here every time I go back to NOLA!

I chose the Marigny as the area for the first part of my New Orleans trip, as we wanted something "real", and close to the music on Frenchman Street and to everything else. Just so you know that the area is, as a fellow reviewer on another site told me, a little "gritty". I liked it! I will stay there again, and most likely for my whole trip. I looked over all the reviews in the area, and as it was Thanksgiving, I had a challenging time finding a place for all of us, for the days we wanted to stay, and then someone told me about Karen and The Dauphine House. I checked the reviews, tortured the wonderful Karen a bit by email, and booked it. Karen is a treat! She is bright, sunny, and so kind and easy going. The Dauphine House was like living in New Orleans. We came and went like we lived there. The rooms are in the bottom part of the house, and Karen is just a call away upstairs. She let us use her washer and dryer, as my Brother is a clean laundry nut, which was so helpful. Our room, the plummy hued one, connected to my Brother's room, which was great, as, well, we're family. He had the cool, green room that has the door that leads right out to the street. Well, I let him have it! We had everything we needed-lots of fresh towels, a place to sit and eat, a microwave, a refrigerator with orange juice and pastry if you wanted it, coffee maker with coffee, tea, etc... In that way, it's not a traditional b&b, but you will find it that way in a lot of the bed and breakfasts in NOLA. We ate a full breakfast every morning at The Cake Cafe. It's walkable. Loved it! Thanks Karen! We had a lovely time, and miss our New Orleans home away from home. AND, we'll be back!

What a wonderful B&B! This place makes me want to ALWAYS stay at B&Bs over hotels. Karen was a wonderful host - she was very detailed with what she told us about the B&B and the location, and she was always available via phone or in person. Karen even gave us a free ghost tour with her group that she guides on Sundays. She was super sweet and very accommodating! We had a very clean and tidy room the entire time. Each of the rooms were decorated so well. We had fresh pastries, bananas, and orange juice everyday. The rooms all have refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, utensils, etc. The location is ideal - JUST outside of the French Quarter. Perfect walking distance to anything you want to go to but not in the center of all the noise. The street is just adorable! You really cannot find a better place at a better price. This place is great!

Outstanding value. Exceptional hospitality. Karen was my favorite host that I've encountered among all of the B&Bs I've ever stayed at. Upon our arrival, she gave us the ultimate overview of restaurants, nightlife, and sightseeing, which enabled us to take in the best of New Orleans in only a few days. I found myself still relying on the map and recommendations that she gave us a week later when I was staying across town at the conference that brought me to N.O. We had a great deal of privacy throughout our stay. It was easy to contact Karen by phone. And, on our last day she anticipated our every need and went out of her way to help us out, my partner needing to catch a flight at the same time the weather forecasters predicted a hurricane landing, and me needing to transfer to my conference site across town where I had a late check-in time. The bathroom and the vanity were spotless, and the room got freshened up nicely every day. It was great having the fridge, fresh orange juice, pastries, and fruit handy, 24/7. And you can't beat this location if you are interested in enjoying the best live music produced anywhere in the city - only a few blocks down, on Frenchmen Street (also located just outside the French Quarter). Even when I stayed across town for a conference, I found myself returning to the Dauphine House neighborhood every night. It's a peaceful neighborhood by day with fun local hangouts to frequent by night, including a fish boil every Friday night at the bar/restaurant on Royal and Kerelac. There's a nice café a block away (open 24 hrs for part of the week). We got a tasty breakfast in a nice atmosphere at Rose Nicaud café on Frenchmen St. A nice, casual place for a peaceful lunch, as well. You can't beat the Dauphine House for hospitality, location, and value. I miss being there already.

You will not be disappointed, especially if you come to Dauphine House during the summer for off-season prices. Karen makes the stay wonderful. She is more than thoughtful, welcoming and respectful. I was happy to notice that the basket of in-room treats (fruit and pastries) was being tailored to my taste. Karen had noticed that I was fond of the bananas and the biscotti, so added more of those items each day. Besides being the b and b proprietor, she is a tour guide. I went on her ghost tour and really liked it. The French Quarter is gorgeous and seeped in history to begin with, but Karen adds just the right amount of enthusiastic storytelling to really bring it to life---not the ghosts, but the Quarter. Loved staying at her place.
